He said to him,\u00a0\u201cFollow me,\u201d\u00a0and he got up and followed him.\u00a0As Jesus sat down to eat in Matthew\u2019s house, many tax collectors and sinners joined Jesus and his disciples at the table. But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, \u201cWhy does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?\u201d When Jesus heard it, he said,\u00a0\u201cHealthy people don\u2019t need a doctor, but sick people do.\u00a0Go and learn what this means:\u00a0I want mercy and not sacrifice.\u00a0I didn\u2019t come to call righteous people, but sinners.\u201d While Jesus was speaking to them, a ruler came and knelt in front of him, saying, \u201cMy daughter has just died. But come and place your hand on her, and she\u2019ll live.\u201d\u00a0So Jesus and his disciples got up and went with him.\u00a0Then a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came up behind Jesus and touched the hem of his clothes.\u00a0She thought, If I only touch his robe I\u2019ll be healed. When Jesus turned and saw her, he said,\u00a0\u201cBe encouraged, daughter. Your faith has healed you.\u201d\u00a0And the woman was healed from that time on. When Jesus went into the ruler\u2019s house, he saw the flute players and the distressed crowd.\u00a0He said,\u00a0\u201cGo away, because the little girl isn\u2019t dead but is asleep\u201d; but they laughed at him.\u00a0After he had sent the crowd away, Jesus went in and touched her hand, and the little girl rose up.\u00a0News about this spread throughout that whole region.<br><br>The Word of God For the People of God, <strong>Thanks be to God. You have made from one every nation and people to live on all the face of the earth. He commissioned us to be his witnesses to the ends of the earth and to make disciples of all nations, On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: &#8220;<em>Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.<\/em>&#8221; When the supper was over he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: &#8220;<em>Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.<\/em>&#8221; We proclaim the mystery of faith.<br><strong>P:Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.<\/strong><br>L: Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine.
